Manager David Moyes is reportedly a big fan of the Juventus midfielder.
Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro
The agent of Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro, Carlo Volpi, has confirmed to Tutto Juve that Sunderland tried to sign his client this summer.
The Black Cats were expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, as many felt they needed to improve on a squad that narrowly avoided relegation once again last season.
However, it proved to be a frustrating window for them as manager David Moyes failed to secure several targets.

While he managed to bring eight new players into his squad it is arguable that he ultimately failed to improve his squad as he would have liked.
And it appears one man they missed out was Juventus midfielder Sturaro, with his agent confirming the Black Cats made a move for his services.
“Yes, Southampton and Sunderland were interested in Sturaro,” his agent Carlo Volpi told Italian website, Tutto Juve.
“The latter’s manager, David Moyes, is an admirer since his time at Everton but the discussion has stopped in June because there was no basis to enter into negotiations. Nothing has ever been taken into account by Juventus.”

It will be interesting to see if Sunderland now revive their interest in the January transfer window.
Much will rest on the success of Didier Ndong who they paid relatively big money for on deadline day to try and improve their midfield.
If he fails to do so, then it would not be surprising to see them linked with a move for Sturaro once again in the winter window.
