Celtic will lose left back Emilio Izaguirre this summer.
The agent of Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre has told The Scottish Sun that the full back has decided to end his time with the Bhoys.
Izaguirre first joined Celtic from Motagua in his native Honduras back in 2010, with Neil Lennon landing the defender having impressed for his country at the World Cup in South Africa.
The left back enjoyed a superb seven year spell with the Bhoys, winning seven league titles, three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups whilst racking up more than 250 appearances.
Izaguirre left with everybody’s blessing in 2017, joining Al-Fayha in Saudi Arabia, but just a year later, Brendan Rodgers brought him back to Parkhead.
Izaguirre has made 23 appearances this season, mostly offering veteran cover for Kieran Tierney, but his contract expires in June – and he’s not going to stay in Glagsow.
The 33-year-old’s agent, Paulo Hernandez, has told The Scottish Sun that Izaguirre has ended his contract with Celtic, but loved both spells with the club.
Hernandez added that Izaguirre is likely to head closer to his family in Honduras, most likely with a move to Mexico or the United States, but he wouldn’t rule out a move to another European team just yet.
“Emilio has ended his contract with Celtic,” said Hernandez. “Although he is not continuing there, he remains a legend of Celtic because of what he achieved there and he was incredibly well liked at the club. He was a 23-year-old boy who arrived from Tegucigalpa to a big city like Glasgow, which is strong and tough with a terrible climate that he wasn’t used to.”
“Now everything points to him being closer to his extended family in Honduras. Obviously, the Mexican League or the MLS would be ideal for him, but it’s always difficult to predict what will happen. Europe wouldn’t be completely ruled out, but Mexico or the USA would be familiar for him. Whatever he decides, he’s going to have plenty of options,” he added.
