Nottingham Forest look set to miss out on the chance to bring Roberto Gagliardini to the Premier League with the former Inter Milan midfielder staying in Serie A.
Tuesday was a busy day for Beppe Riso.
Roberto Gaglardini’s agent visited the Inter Milan offices not only to finalise the 29-year-old’s departure from San Siro, but to also hold talks over a deal that will see Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi take his place.
A £22 million deal for Frattesi is now ‘very close’ (Football Italia). He will help offset the departures of both Marcelo Brozovic and the aforementioned Gagliardini, the former on his way to Saudi Arabia while the latter bids farewell following the expiration of his contract.

Nottingham Forest, per Gazzetta dello Sport, showed an interest in Gaglardini a few months ago, in the knowledge that the £20 million signing from Atalanta was unlikely to extend his stay at the Champions League finalists.
Gagliardini officially became a free-agent on Saturday.
But, as Riso tells Tuttomercatoweb, the 29-year-old will still be plying his trade in Serie A come 2022/23 with an ambitious Monza outfit hoping to make him their latest high-profile addition.
Nottingham Forest to miss out on Roberto Gagliardini
“We are closing the agreement with Monza. We should be there next week,” Riso says. “He’s going to play in Serie A.”
Riso did, however, rule out a move to Salernitana. Leicester City have also been credited with an interest. But the Foxes completed the signing of former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Harry Winks last week.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are looking at quality over quantity this summer. They spent over £100 million on nearly 30 new players during 2022/23, after all.
Replacements may be required for Emmanuel Dennis, Steve Cook and Jonjo Shelvey. All three, according to The Telegraph, are available for transfer.
A new goalkeeper is also a priority; Dean Henderson the leading target with Michele di Gregorio, Ugurcan Cakir, Emil Audero and Luis Maximiano potential alternatives.
