Everton are in the market for a new centre back this summer, but their attempts to sign one have been a little frustrating.

Links to Lille’s Gabriel and Barcelona’s Jean-Clair Todibo have emerged, with Everton seemingly hoping to get a deal done early.

However, Everton haven’t been able to finalise either deal, and the ongoing global pandemic may eat into their budget for such a signing.

Marcel Brands and co may have to look for a free agent to bring in – and reports over the weekend suggested that one name is emerging as a real target.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Everton want to sign Thiago Silva. They even state that contact has been made about a potential deal for the Brazilian.

Carlo Ancelotti signed Silva for AC Milan back in 2009, before then bringing him to Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

The pair have enjoyed a great relationship in the past, so links to Everton are no great shock. The 35-year-old is out of contract at PSG this summer, meaning he can move on for free.

However, Milan are thought to be keen on re-signing him. Now, agent Paulo Tonietto has told Milan Live that there are no talks with Milan, but Silva believes he can play for another five years and hasn’t yet decided where he will be playing next season.

“There is nothing,” said Tonietto. “He still has five years in front of him in which he will continue to play, but there is nothing definite regarding a possible team in which to end his career. At the moment there is nothing with Milan. I haven’t heard from anyone,” he added.
