Agent comments on £27m Arsenal player who Edu’s worried about

The agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has revealed that he’s not going anywhere this month.

Torreira joined Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan earlier in the campaign but the Uruguay international has struggled for regular game time in the Spanish capital.

So far, the 24-year-old, who cost Arsenal £27 million in 2018, has managed only a little over 200 minutes of league football under Diego Simeone.

Speculation has mounted that Inter Milan could sign him if the Gunners decided to recall the former Sampdoria midfielder.

But his agent, Pablo Bentancur, has insisted that he isn’t leaving Spain before his loan deal expires during the summer, amid speculation about a switch to San Siro.

He told FCinter1908: “No contact with Inter for Torreira. I have not received any calls. Torreira is from Atletico, he is very well in Madrid and will not move in January.”

Arsenal wouldn’t be against a move to Inter at all.

Atletico aren’t obliged to buy him at the end of this loan and so far, it looks increasingly likely that they won’t sign him.

This arrangement could be a waste of time for all parties over the next five months.

But if Arsenal could recall him and loan him to Italy, where he has proven himself a fine player, then it’ll increase their chances of getting a fee for him in the summer.

The Gunners’ technical director Edu revealed this week that he was ‘concerned’ about the player amid his struggle in Madrid [AS], which is another sign that the North Londoners would prefer to recall him and offload him to somebody else.
