Goal.com reported on October 1 that Torreira is on the verge of joining Atletico from Arsenal.
The report claimed that the Uruguay international will join the Spanish club on a season-long loan deal, with the La Liga outfit having an option to make the move permanent in the summer of 2021.
Inside Futbol has quoted Torreira’s agent as saying that the 24-year-old will undergo a medical at Atletico on Saturday despite interest in him from AS Roma.
When asked if Roma are out of the race to land Torreira, Pablo Betancur told Inside Futbol on Friday (8:17pm): “Yes, Roma is out. Now Atletico. Yes, tomorrow medical visits.”
Leaving Arsenal
Torreira has been on the books of Arsenal since 2018, and although the former Sampdoria midfielder has played well on occasions, it seems that manager Mikel Arteta does not consider him an important part of his plans.
The 24-year-old has yet to play in the Premier League this season, while in 2019-20, he made 17 starts and in the league and played 344 minutes in the Europa League for the Gunners, according to WhoScored.
Arsenal do have enough players in midfield, and one suspects that the North London club are not going to miss Torreira much.
