Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers have been linked with Mexican midfielder Carlos Pena.

Rangers are set to sign Carlos Pena in the coming days, the midfielder’s agent has told The Scottish Sun.

Salvador Necochea has said that he hopes to get the deal to bring the 27-year-old Mexico international midfielder to Ibrox completed in the coming days.

Necochea, though, has claimed that one Mexican club are interested in signing the midfielder in the summer. Pena is currently on loan at Club Leon from Liga MX rivals CD Guadalajara.

“Rangers want him because Pedro Caixinha knows him extremely well and believes his game is perfectly suited to what he needs at Rangers,” Necochea told The Scottish Sun.

“The talks are continuing with Rangers. At the moment, we don’t know whether Carlos’ move will be a transfer or a loan. But we are hoping for this to be concluded in a few days.

“Carlos has a couple of options, the strongest of which are Rangers. But it is not 100 per cent yet. There is also one club in Mexico who are interested.

“He is excited about the transfer to Rangers, he wants to explore new horizons. Playing in Europe for a club who are the most important in their country appeals to him.Carlos is hoping this will come to a good conclusion for him.”

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha knows about Pena from his time Santos Laguna, and it does seem that it is the Portuguese boss who wants to bring the Mexican midfielder to Ibrox.

Pena is a good player, and the fact that he has played 19 times for Mexico shows that he has international experience.

Rangers finished third in the Scottish Premiership this season after winning automatic promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign. The Gers will be aiming to close the gap on Old Firm rivals Celtic next season.
