According to Henk Timmer, Newcastle and West Ham target Marcos Senesi could now be available for just €12m (£10m) in the summer.

What’s the story?

Well, it was De Telegraaf who revealed that Newcastle were interested in signing the 24-year-old in January.

Elsewhere, 90min claimed that West Ham are keen to sign the Argentine.

Now, Timmer has delivered an update which will surely be of interest to Eddie Howe and David Moyes.

As quoted by Voetbal Primeur, the 50-year-old said: “He still has one year left on his contract, so €20m (£17m) is not something Feyenoord will achieve. If you are between €12m – €15m, you are doing very well (£10m – £12m).”

Seeing as Newcastle were happy to pay £17m to sign Senesi in January – according to ELF Voetbal – this £10m fee surely won’t be an issue.

It also shouldn’t be a problem for the Hammers, as Moyes revealed that West Ham submitted a number of club-record bids in January – the money is clearly there to be spent.

Newcastle and West Ham need Marcos Senesi

It will be interesting to see who wins the race for Senesi, as both of the Premier League duo need a new centre-back.

West Ham only have Kurt Zouma, Issa Diop and Craig Dawson to choose from, as Angelo Ogbonna is still injured.

At the age of 33, nobody can be sure of the Italian returning to the same level he was at following such a serious injury.

In Newcastle’s case, the Magpies signed Dan Burn in January, but Howe’s options are still quite poor at the back.

In addition to the ex-Brighton man, Newcastle have Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez, while Paul Dummett can also play there.

With that in mind, both sides could end up involved in a tense bidding war, as they attempt to strengthen the centre-back department this summer.
