Liverpool have allegedly missed out on Real Madrid-bound Rodrygo.
The agent of Santos talent Rodrygo Goes has told Esporte Interativo that Liverpool did make a bid for his client, but Real Madrid are set to secure his signature.
There is always a hot prospect in Brazil attracting interest from Europe’s elite, and after Vinicius Junior last year, it’s now the turn of Rodrygo.
Rodrygo, 17, is the latest product of a Santos setup which has produced the likes of Neymar, Felipe Anderson, Gabriel Barbosa, Diego and Thiago Maia in recent years.
A talented forward who already has nine goals in 31 games for Santos, Rodrygo has been tipped for stardom, and has also scored three goals in four caps for Brazil at Under-17 level.
Just like Flamengo’s Vinicius Junior, a major scramble across Europe is ongoing as teams attempt to sign Rodrygo, but also just like Vinicius Junior, it seems that Real Madrid are winning the battle.
Marca report that Real have agreed a staggering €45million (£40million) deal to land Rodrygo, with a move coming to fruition when the forward reaches the age of 18 in January 2019.
Now, Rodrygo’s agent Nick Arcuri has told Esporte Interativo that Liverpool were one of the clubs to make a move for the teenager, but they couldn’t strike a deal with Santos before Real swooped in.
Liverpool may have been hoping to nurture one of South America’s top talents at Anfield, though fans may prefer that the £40million is spent on somebody more proven than 17-year-old Rodrygo as the Reds chase a Premier League title.
