Leeds United are reportedly keen on Hull City striker Abel Hernandez.
The agent of Hull City striker Abel Hernandez has told Championat in Russia that CSKA Moscow have failed with a move to land him.
Hernandez, 27, joined Hull from Palermo back in the summer of 2014 having built up a strong reputation in Italy, though he hit just four goals in 26 Premier League games as he struggled to settle at the KCOM Stadium.
The Uruguayan international returned to form by smashing 20 goals in 39 Championship games to fire Hull back to the Premier League in the 2015-16 season, only to struggle again in the Premier League with four goals in 24 outings last term.
Hernandez missed a huge chunk of this season with a knee injury, but did come back for the final seven games of the season, hitting five goals and one assist to aid the Tigers’ fight against the drop.
The problem for Hull is that Hernandez is out of contract this summer, and unless he pens a new deal, he can walk away for free – and potentially to a Championship rival.
The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Leeds want to bring in Hernandez on a free transfer, and are drawing up a contract offer to the striker in a bid to lure him to Elland Road.
Leeds will have to pay up to land him though, as agent Oscar Bentancourt has told Championat in Russia that CSKA Moscow have made an offer, but it was turned down due to the low wages on offer – despite the Russian side being in the Champions League next season – and many English clubs also want him.
“CSKA really came out to us with a proposal not so long ago,” said Bentancourt. “This is a very good team. The only problem was that their original proposal was too low for money. In addition, Abel is interested in many clubs in England. Let’s see what happens,” he added.
