Agent claims Everton wanted Cardiff’s Kenneth Zohore, Brighton failed with Danish record bid

Brighton and Everton wanted to sign Kenneth Zohore from Cardiff City this summer.

The agent of Cardiff City striker Kenneth Zohore, Darryl Powell, has told Danish newspaper BT that Brighton and Everton both failed with moves for the forward this summer.

Zohore, 23, emerged as a top young talent with Copenhagen, but spells with Fiorentina, Brondby, Goteborg and Odense gave him little success as he failed to settle.

In January 2016, Cardiff swooped to land Zohore on a free from Kortrijk and after two goals in 12 games, the Bluebirds snapped him up on a permanent basis, and he has become a key player in South Wales.

Zohore notched 12 goals in 29 Championship games last season, whilst he has also impressed this term even if he has only found the net once in seven league outings.

The powerful striker received major interest over the summer, but Cardiff managed to end the transfer window with the forward still at the club, fending off those interested clubs.

Now, Zohore’s agent, Darryl Powell, has told Danish newspaper BT that Brighton failed with a club-record bid – believed to be £17million – which would have been a record sale for Cardiff and the record fee spent on a Danish player, eclipsing Christian Eriksen’s 2013 move to Tottenham.

Powell revealed that Cardiff not only snubbed Brighton’s bid, but Everton also registered a strong interest in signing Zohore, which ultimately failed too.

“It would have been a record purchase for Brighton and a record sale for Cardiff,” said Powell. “There would also have been a record for the sale of a Danish player. It was a really, really honourable amount that was offered. And there was also strong interest from Everton,” he added.

Everton undoubtedly need another striker having failed to replace Romelu Lukaku following his move to Manchester United, and with Ronald Koeman often targeting a target man, Zohore fits the bill.

Whilst his all-round play has impressed, Zohore has found the net just once this term, and if he was to replace Lukaku, he may need to show more of a clinical edge – and Everton may well continue to track his fortunes over the coming months ahead of the January transfer window.
