Celtic have already brought in one new striker this summer – but they may yet need to find somebody else to bolster Neil Lennon’s attack.

The Bhoys have landed Albian Ajeti from West Ham United, and he showed what he can do with a winning goal against Dundee United last week.

Yet with Celtic now out of the Champions League following a defeat to Ferencvaros, they may now find it difficult to keep hold of Odsonne Edouard.

With Patryk Klimala not yet trusted for a major role and Leigh Griffiths something of a question mark, another striker may yet be needed.

One name that hasn’t really been linked to Celtic yet is Bayer Leverkusen’s Lucas Alario, but it seems that the Bhoys are indeed interested in him.

Agent Pedro Aldave has told Europa Calcio that Celtic are the only team to have shown an interest in signing Alario, but he isn’t really interested in such a move.

Aldave noted that he has a strong relationship with Benfica, which could lend itself to Alario heading there rather than Parkhead.

“I had Cardozo at Benfica for 7 years, I have an excellent relationship with the club,” said Aldave. “Alario is a suitable profile for the Portuguese club but I don’t know if it could be satisfactory from an economic point of view. At the moment they are just rumours. The only team that has shown interest in Alario is Celtic, but he wants to play in a competitive league,” he added.

Alario, 27, made his name with River Plate before heading to Leverkusen. Last season, Alario, notched 12 goals and three assists in all competitions for Leverkusen, serving as a valuable squad member for the German side.

An Argentina international with seven caps and three goals to his name, Alario has strong pedigree – and would be quite the coup if Celtic can manage to change his mind.
