Celtic don’t have a manager nor a director of football as things stand, yet they contiue to be linked with new signings.
Those positions should be filled soon, but just who is calling the shots right now? It’s unclear with Peter Lawwell set to leave, and yet a new rumour has emerged.
The agent of Egyptian star Mohamed Magdy Afsha has been quoted by KingFut as saying that Celtic are competing for his signature.
Abdelrahman Ismail claims Galatasaray and Besiktas are also keen, but Afsha is happy with Al Ahly right now.
“Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Celtic are competing to sign Mohamed Magdy Afsha,” said Ismail. “Afsha’s contract with Al Ahly expires in 2024, and no one from the club has spoken to us about extending the contract yet. But Afsha is happy with Al Ahly, and if the club open negotiations about extending his contract, he will agree immediately,” he added.
Afsha, 25, is a diminutive playmaker at just 5ft 7in tall, and he has been impressive for Al Ahly with 12 goals and 18 assists in 68 games.

With two goals in nine Egypt caps, Afsha has shown his quality for club and country, and maybe he really is on Celtic’s radar.
Ryan Christie’s future is unclear, and with Mohamed Elyounoussi heading back to Southampton, adding more creative players does make sense for Celtic.
It’s just hard to believe that they’re really pushing for signings right now without a manager or director of football, and maybe Ismail is trying to drum up interest in his client – or even force Al Ahly to come forward with that new contract offer.
