Jean-Philippe Gbamin has no future at Everton and could return to the Russian Premier League during the summer transfer window.
That is according to Bernard Collignon; the Ivorian’s agent telling Sport24 that a player who joined in £25 million deal from Mainz during the summer of 2019 will not be returning to Goodison Park in an attempt to kick-start his Toffees career under Sean Dyche.
Jean-Philippe Gbamin has made only six league appearances during an injury-hit spell in England. But even after proving his fitness during impressive loan spells at CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor, it seems that Everton will opt against bringing the 27-year-old back for a fresh start on Merseyside.
“After a loan spell at Trabzonspor in Turkey, Gbamin will still have a year left on his contract with Everton. But the player will not return to the English club,” Collignon tells Sport24.
“Continuing his career in Russia? Everything is possible. In the summer, we’ll see if there is interest from the RPL.”

Given his price-tag and his lack of game time in Everton blue, Gbamin may be viewed by many as one of the worst signings of the Farhad Moshiri era. And that’s saying something; the Iranian shipping magnate wasting well over £500 million in the transfer market while turning Everton from Champions League-chasers into Championship-dodgers.
In his defence, however, a fit and firing Gbamin is an altogether different beast.
The one-time Bundesliga enforcer was excellent at Mainz, and has been a big hit since joining reigning Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor on another short-term deal during the summer of 2022.
“Trabzonspor are investigating (keeping) this player for next season,” explains former Turkey international Giray Kacar. “In my opinion, Gbamin is one of the best Trabzonspor have ever had.
“His physicality, speed, and his vision is good, in my opinion.”
According to the Daily Mail, meanwhile, Moshiri’s disastrous seven-year reign at Everton could soon be coming to a merciful end. American investment fund 777 Partners will reportedly complete a £600 million takeover as early as next week.
