The agent of Lecce and Serie A defender Patrick Dorgu may have just confirmed reports suggesting that he is a target for Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester City.

During his interview with Sport Italia, Kingsley Ogbodo was keen to keep his cards close to his chest when asked about the clubs who have taken an interest in his much-coveted client over the last few months.

But, when that rumoured interest from Liverpool and Manchester City was brought up, Patrick Dorgu’s representative insisted that the Premier League giants are only the tip of the iceberg. Clubs not only in England but in Spain and Germany too flocking to Lecce’s Stadio Via del Mare.

Liverpool eye Serie A starlet Patrick Dorgu

“Not only the clubs you mentioned (Liverpool and City), but also others (are interested in Dorgu),” Ogbodo explains. “There is a lot of interest in Patrick and that doesn’t surprise me. Everyone can see his talent.

“When he has even more confidence in his abilities and has completed his growth, then we will see the results he can achieve.”

Despite only turning 19 in October, Dorgu is already a regular in Serie A. Comparisons with Destiny Udogie – who shone as a rampaging left-back at Udinese before joining Tottenham – are understandable, and Liverpool’s interest may be the first sign of Jurgen Klopp eyeing a long-term replacement for the ageing and injured Andy Robertson.

Andy Robertson’s replacement at Anfield?

“He needs to attack. He likes it, he’s a pushing full-back,” Ogbodo adds. “Offensively, he’s very good and now he’s expressing himself at his best.

“England, Spain, Germany… From different countries, they try to contact me. When the time comes, we will know what to do. He is young and we want him to grow calmly, waiting for the right moment, which will come.

“What I know is that he needs to play, in a team that has faith in him like Lecce. With a coach who believes in him. As that is happening now, we are in no hurry (to leave).

“When he has the chance, and when it will be the time to make decisions, we will know. Whether it is in January or in the summer, we will understand then.”

Should Dorgu arrive at Anfield in 2024, that could spell the end of Kostas Tsimikas’ time as a Liverpool player.
