Agbonlahor wants Aston Villa to sign London-based PL striker, he’s told ‘stop that nonsense’

Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that he wants Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney because he thinks he would ‘suit us’, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast on Wednesday morning (28/12/22).

The former Villa player made those comments in front of talkSPORT presenter and Brentford fan Natalie Sawyer, who told him to ‘stop that nonsense’.

Toney was unlucky to miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad because he has had an outstanding season so far, after keeping the Bees in the Premier League last term.

The former Newcastle United man is playing the best football of his career because he has 11 Premier League goals to his name, including finding the back of the net during Brentford’s 2-2 draw against Spurs on Boxing Day.

Whilst the Bees put their chances away against Spurs, those in the Midlands, mainly Ollie Watkins, struggled to punish Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and ended up suffering a 3-1 defeat.

Villa fans have been asking if another striker needs to be added to their ranks during the January transfer window, as Agbonlahor cheekily put forward Toney’s name.

“I want Toney at Aston Villa,” said Agbonlahor.

Presenter and Brentford fan Natalie Sawyer responded by saying: “No, no, no. Stop that! Stop that nonsense.”

Agbonlahor added: “He would suit us.”

Sawyer responded: “He wouldn’t suit you. He is very happy where he is. Let’s just leave it at that.”

Agbonlahor then claimed with a grin on his face: “We are close to Brentford, it’s not far, he can travel.”

TONEY DESERVES A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MOVE

If Toney does leave Brentford, then at the rate he is scoring at, he deserves a move to a team in the Champions League, or playing in Europe at a minimum.

Even if he slows down during the second half of the campaign, he should still hit 20 goals.

Come the end of the season, if he is sitting on 20+, then it would be a serious achievement because it’s not for a team of world-class talent, nor is it for a side expected to challenge near the top.
