Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested that Liverpool forward Mo Salah thinks he’s ‘bigger than the team’, as he told Sky Sports News (09/07/20 at 10:05 am).

Salah is chasing the Premier League’s Golden Boot with the season nearing its end, and yesterday, he netted a brace to help Liverpool record all three points against Brighton.

Earlier on in the season at Burnley, Sadio Mane expressed his anger at Salah’s supposed selfishness.

Agbonlahor touched upon that incident and Salah ‘shooting from anywhere’ against Brighton last night.

“I think if you saw earlier on in the season [against Burnley], it wasn’t healthy,” Agbonlahor told Sky Sports. “The likes of Salah, he was shooting from anywhere. I don’t think you can have that in a team because even if you are a midfielder coming on for a pass, you want to be set. You don’t want a player thinking he’s bigger than the team and taking all the shots.

“If that was me playing there would be a lot of words being said. Like there was between Mane and Salah [against Burnley].”

In truth, Salah’s selfishness has got him where he is today, but it also needs to be remembered, he does create more chances than others think.

Whilst the talk is about him liking to shoot often, he has created nine league assists this season – the same as Andy Robertson and three behind Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Plus, the Egyptian is surrounded by the likes of his fullback teammates, Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva and Son Heung-Min in the assists chart – these players are not considered selfish.

The argument about Salah perhaps needs to be more balanced and whilst his selfishness is talked about a lot then so should the creative side of his game.
