Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that ‘everyone is shocked’ that Tottenham Hotspur target, Anthony Gordon, could secure a possible transfer from Everton to Chelsea this summer, as he told talkSPORT.
The former Aston Villa striker added that it’s ‘strange’ from both Everton and Chelsea that this possible transfer might go ahead – the 21-year-old is a highly sought-after player this summer with Spurs also keen.
Richarlison has already secured a £60 million transfer from Everton to Spurs, and despite his experience, goals in the Premier League and international caps with Brazil, it seems as though his much younger teammate might be going for the same amount.
Those on Merseyside certainly weren’t planning to lose both Gordon and Richarlison this summer, but money talks in life and it seems as though Chelsea are willing to pay the big bucks.
Even though Gordon hasn’t played for England, nor on the European stage, it has been reported that those from Stamford Bridge are willing to put £60 million on the table for the all-action winger.
Agbonlahor reacted to the Englishman’s possible move before next week’s deadline and how Chelsea probably don’t even need the player.
“First of all, I think it’s strange for Everton to even think of selling him,” said Agbonlahor. “But when you talk about this amount of money. You have to sell him.
“When you are talking about £60 million. For me, he is a £30 million or £40 million, at most, player. He can get at players. He can put a good delivery in and he can score a goal.
“It’s also strange from Chelsea because they need a number nine. They have got wingers in the building. Is Gordon really going to change Chelsea from a wide point of view? Not for me.
“It just doesn’t make sense. Everyone is shocked. You look at social media. £60 million is a lot.”
IS GORDON MAKING A MISTAKE?
If Everton accept this deal, then it’s understandable because a stupid amount of money is being put on the table for a player that only made his breakthrough campaign last season.
But, for the player himself, this might just prove to be the wrong move and one he shouldn’t make, even if Champions League football is on the table.
At Everton, there is no doubt that he earns regular starts, even if he plays poorly, will the same happen under Thomas Tuchel?
Ross Barkley made that move a number of years ago, his career went backwards and now Chelsea can’t wait to get rid of him, Gordon won’t want to end up in the same boat down the line.
