Gabby Agbonlahor has posted on Instagram a picture of Ashley Young with the captain ‘good times’ amid rumours that he will return to Aston Villa.
The Athletic have reported that Aston Villa are looking to bring Young back to their shores, with the Inter Milan player out of contract at the Italian giants this summer.
It’s been a talking point amongst Villa fans during the past 24 hours and it seems as though Agbonlahor has perhaps hinted that something could happen.
The ex-Villa striker played alongside Young for several years where they built a formidable attack under Martin O’Neill, whilst also competing in Europe.
This is what Agbonlahor posted on his Instagram today, with several Villa fans commenting underneath saying that he’s acting like an ‘agent’ and he is ‘getting it over the line’.
This would be a smart purchase from Villa’s perspective and one they should push for at all costs.
Young can cover various positions across the pitch – both fullback spots and the attacking wide areas.
Then there’s the fact that he has played at Villa Park before, so he will have that connection with supporters.
Added with that, he will bring trophy-winning experience to B6, which will only continue to add the European jigsaw Dean Smith is trying to build at the club.
And it also needs to be noted that one of Young’s strengths is his crossing ability, both from open play and dead-ball situations.
All of which would be more than welcome at Villa Park and a quality that would, most importantly, fit straight into Smith’s system.
