Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed on his Instagram story that he will “soon be back” as he struggles to overcome a calf injury picked up more than two months ago.
The 31-year-old has failed to pull on the claret and blue of Aston Villa since September 9, after picking up the injury during Villa’s 0-0 Championship draw against Brentford as a substitute.
The three-time England international had previously been in good form for the Midlands giants, scoring once against Hull City as well as providing an assist against Reading during his four appearances this season.
The striker’s troubles with injury has seen him plummet down the Villa pecking order, with Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan likely to be preferred to him while the form of Robert Snodgrass, Albert Adomah and teenage duo Keinan Davis and Andre Green could limit his chances out wide.
Villa next face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday, as they remain in sixth place in the Championship table after six league wins in their last nine outings.
Three points for Steve Bruce’s side could see Villa leapfrog Middlesbrough into fifth place, if Middlesbrough drop points to Garry Monk’s former side Leeds United.
