Ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has had a pop at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ transfer business on Twitter by asking why they aren’t signing any ‘English players’.

He then followed it up by questioning why they allowed academy product Morgan Gibbs-White to move out on-loan to Swansea City this summer.

Powerful super-agent Jorge Mendes has provided Wolves with players from across Europe ever since the club was transformed by the takeover from Chinese owners Fosun in 2016.

Players from Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona have swapped the sunny climates of Southern Europe for the money-laden English Premier League – and many of them have had one thing in common…Portugal!

With the vast amount of Portuguese influence within their club, Wolves have even decided to dedicate their third kit to the colours of that country this season.

But given that Mendes has had such an influence on the club, it has raised eyebrows far and wide, with the club seemingly one defender away from being able to field an all Portgual XI.

Whilst others seemingly question the above, those at Molineux will simply point to their recent success which has seen them climb from England’s second-tier and into Europe.

The stack of players Nuno Espirito Santo has at his disposal are some of the finest in the land, that’s why the champions of England opted to secure the services of Jota this summer.
