Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed on talkSPORT that Son Heung-min has grown in importance for Tottenham Hotspur this season – to the point that he’s a more vital player for Jose Mourinho than Harry Kane.
Son scored Spurs’ second of the afternoon on Saturday as Mourinho’s side hammered Leeds United 3-0 in North London, before also setting up the third.
In doing so, the former Bayer Leverkusen attacker now has 15 goals and eight assists for Tottenham across all competitions this season, meaning he has been involved in 23 goals in 24 games.
On this form, Son is undeniably one of the Premier League’s finest footballers – and Agbonlahor has warned that failure to win a trophy this season could well result in the Lilywhites struggling to keep him next summer, arguing that he now supersedes Kane in terms of importance.
He said: “Everybody goes on about Kane but for me the most important player Spurs have got is Son. Without Son, Kane can’t get them assists. For me, Son has been outstanding and if Spurs don’t win anything this season there’ll be loads of offers coming in for him.”
Is Son more important than Kane? Well it’s a big call from Agbonlahor, given that Kane has 17 goals and 14 assists under his belt this season.
The truth is, who cares? The reality is that Mourinho has both of them playing out of their skin at the moment and from Tottenham’s perspective, long may it last.
