Michael Dawson says Kai Havertz was ‘quiet again’ as Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season to RC Lens in the Champions League.

After scoring against Bournemouth, many were hoping that Kai Havertz could use that to kick-start an Arsenal career that has seen him struggle so far.

But the 24-year-old wasn’t able to do that in the Champions League last night, as Michael Dawson stated that the German, alongside, Martin Odegaard just couldn’t get going in France, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (03/10/23 at 9:45 pm).

It’s a defeat Arsenal have to take on their chin because it’s their first of the season, with the injury to Bukayo Saka the biggest worry.

This is where the likes of Kai Havertz now need to step up, if their star man on the right is out for the long-term, with Thierry Henry portraying that message last night.

Either way, former Premier League defender Michael Dawson explained why Havertz and Odegaard were poor against RC Lens.

Arsenal lose to RC Lens

“I have been pretty disappointed with Arsenal,” said Dawson. “I think that’s a credit to Lens. They have nullified all of Arsenal’s strengths and looked positive on the counter.

“Odegaard hasn’t got into the game. Havertz has been quiet again. You need to get these types of players, certainly Odegaard, on the ball and he hasn’t seen enough of it.

“They got Odegaard and Havertz off – it epitomises the way they have played.”

Pressure mounting on Kai Havertz

The former Chelsea man has walked straight into a pressure cooker and a team that feels it’s on the edge of winning the Premier League title.

So, whoever comes in, needs to settle in pretty quickly because of where the club is now at.

That doesn’t help Havertz’s cause because it looks like he needs a few months to get going.
