Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter after spotting one recurring theme, following Newcastle’s 3-3 draw against Brentford in the Premier League.
What’s the story?
Well, it pretty much goes without saying, but Shearer felt Newcastle’s defending was ‘so bad’ once again, as the winless streak continues.
The Magpies shipped three goals in just over an hour, before Allan Saint-Maximin’s effort helped rescue a point for Eddie Howe.
Nevertheless, it could’ve been so much more had the Toon Army been a bit more resolute at the back.
You can see what Shearer tweeted in full below.
Make no mistake about it, Howe needs to make his side much more formidable at Little Benton, when his isolation period ends.
Alongside Graeme Jones and Jason Tindall, Howe at least knows what he needs to work on, just weeks after replacing Steve Bruce.
Any positives for Newcastle after the 3-3 draw?

In our view, the fact Newcastle scored three goals today is a massive positive, as the attacking intent under Bruce was nonexistent.
It should be a relief for Newcastle fans to see that their side are actually capable of scoring multiple goals in a game, and also, the fact Joelinton got on the scoresheet is a real plus.
Having said that, Howe cannot rely on his side outscoring the opposition every week – it simply isn’t a sustainable approach to adopt.

Foundations need to be laid, and that starts from the back.
When Howe recovers from COVID-19, he must sort this issue out, to say the very least – if not, relegation could be on the cards.
