The Tottenham Hotspur youngster will surely not do any worse than the Austrian international.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino sprang something of a surprise on Saturday when he opted to play Kevin Wimmer at left-back against Chelsea.

With Danny Rose and Ben Davies unavailable it was up to the Austrian to step in. However it is fair to say the 24-year-old did not have the best of days as his side lost 2-1 to the Premier League leaders.

With Rose having served his one-match suspension and Davies expected back in early December, the prospect of Wimmer playing another match at left-back for Spurs is slim. However, if the situation does arise in the future, Tottenham would be wise to ignore the Austrian and instead put their faith in youngster Kyle Walker-Peters.

The 19-year-old is one of the club’s most highly rated academy prospects and while he is predominantly a right-back he can also operate effectively on the opposite flank, as he has three times in the UEFA Youth League this season.

Pochettino has showed he is not afraid to give youth a chance and Walker-Peters is slowly creeping up the line.

Yet to make his debut for the first-team, the Tottenham youngster would seize any opportunity given to him, and after Wimmer’s outing at the weekend, it would be no surprise if Walker-Peters is now seen as the club’s third-choice option at left-back. If he isn’t, perhaps he should be!
