Reports from both the Daily Mail and Lincolnshire Live this week suggested that West Ham United have made a bid of around £125,000 for Lincoln City defender Sean Raggett – though the latter claim the bid was rejected.

Raggett, 23, joined the Imps from Dover last summer, and he has enjoyed the finest season of his career, having helped Lincoln win promotion from the National League.

The giant centre back ended the season with an impressive goalscoring record, notching seven goals in 47 games in all competitions, including the famous winning goal over Burnley in their FA Cup clash in February.

Raggett’s performances for Lincoln now appear to have attracted major interest, as Lincolnshire Live claim that West Ham United have failed with a £125,000 bid for Raggett, with Oxford and Peterborough United failing with £250,000 offers.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham make another bid, given that their £125,000 offer was believed to be some way short of Lincoln’s valuation, but one club who should be keeping tabs on the situation is West Bromwich Albion.

The Daily Mail note that the Baggies offered £100,000 for Raggett, and they should continue their pursuit of the defender this summer in a bid to bring some youth to their back line.

Tony Pulis does have Jonny Evans at his disposal, but Gareth McAuley turns 38 later this year, and Marc Wilson is only on loan from Bournemouth, meaning a younger centre back should be a priority for West Brom.

At 6ft 5in tall, Raggett certainly has prototypical size for a Pulis defender, whilst the importance of right back Craig Dawson – a player signed from the lower leagues – should show Raggett that he can enjoy similar success under Pulis.

A deal for Raggett is unlikely to break the bank for West Brom, and they should certainly be looking to continue their chase for the defender despite West Ham’s move for him this week.
