Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison from Leicester City in the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

Newcastle make £40m bid for Tottenham target Maddison

The Telegraph are reporting this morning that Newcastle have made a bid of £40 million for Leicester attacking midfielder Maddison.

The Magpies made the offer on Friday.

Former Premier League champions Leicester have turned it down, according to The Telegraph.

The report has claimed that Newcastle are now considering making a new and improved bid for the 25-year-old England international, described as “superbly consistent” by former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker on Twitter in May 2022.

The report about Newcastle’s big bid for Maddison comes just days after it was claimed in the English media that Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Maddison this summer.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport on July 20 that Tottenham “have touched base over Maddison”.

Could a transfer happen?

In our view, Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United could be able to sign James Maddison from Leicester City if they pay more than £40 million.

Leicester are a rich and established club in the Premier League, but money talks.

The Foxes turning down a bid of £40 million for the 25-year-old shows how highly they rate him, but every player has his price.

Maddison scored 12 goals and gave eight assists in the Premier League and scored one goal and gave two assists in the Europa League last season.
