Ange Postecoglou worked with Jota at Celtic, and we were not surprised when it emerged that Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign the winger in the summer transfer window.

Former Celtic star Jota linked with summer move to Tottenham Hotspur

90min reported on August 25 that Tottenham Hotspur were considering signing Jota, just weeks after he left Celtic for Al Ittihad.

Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad were reportedly willing to send the winger out on loan despite signing him from Celtic earlier in the window.

According to The Scottish Sun, Al Ittihad paid Celtic £25 million in transfer fees for Jota and are paying the 24-year-old Portuguese winger £200,000 per week as salary.

Spurs did not sign Jota.

Instead, the North London club brought in Wales international forward Brennan Johnson from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.

Ange Postecoglou was appointed the Tottenham head coach in the summer.

Jota is still at Al Ittihad, but his future at the Saudi Arabian club looks bleak now.

Jota struggling at Al Ittihad now

According to journalist Hattan Al Najjar, Al Ittihad have decided to leave Jota out for all of their league games now.

Luiz Felipe, signed from Real Betis, is now expected to replace the former Celtic star in the squad.

According to The Sun, the 24-year-old winger has played 133 minutes across five matches for Al Ittihad, scoring one goal in the process.

Interestingly, Al Ittihad is managed by former Tottenham head coach Nuno.

Nuno led The Tigers to the Saudi Pro League title in 2022-23.
