Emmanuel Frimpong has suggested on Twitter that Arsenal should appoint club legend Sol Campbell as their manager and replace Mikel Arteta.

The former Arsenal midfielder posted the tweet this evening while watching the Gunners in action against Villarreal in the Europa League.

Arteta’s side have suffered a 2-1 defeat to Villarreal away from home in Spain in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

The Yellow Submarine scored twice in the first half, and the Gunners suffered a further blow when Daniel Ceballos, on loan from Real Madrid, was sent off in the 57th minute.

Nicolas Pepe scored a penalty on 73 minutes and Villarreal also had a man dismissed, as Arsenal lost the first leg 2-1.

There is still a chance that Arsenal could progress to the final of the Europa League, as they have an away goal, but Frimpong believes that the North London club need to bring in Campbell.

Sol Campbell for Mikel Arteta?

Arteta is not having the best of times at Arsenal. The Gunners are not going to finish in the Premier League top four, and there is still a danger that they will lose the semi-final tie against Villarreal.

However, it is hard to see Arsenal sack Arteta after just one full season. The Gunners are a team in progress, and the North London club are likely to give the Spaniard at least another full campaign.

Campbell is an Arsenal legend. The 46-year-old has managed Macclesfield Town and Southend Unite in recent years and is without a managerial role at the moment.
