Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has suggested to Leeds Live that Kalvin Phillips will be fit for the match against Barnsley this week.

The Whites got the better of Swansea City 1-0 away from home at the Liberty Stadium in the Championship on Sunday afternoon.

Phillips played an important role in the match, but the 24-year-old was heavily strapped, as reported by Leeds Live.

Bielsa has allayed the Leeds fans’ worries, and has given them the positive news that the Englishman will be able to feature in the Championship match against Barnsley at Elland Road on Thursday.

Bielsa told Leeds Live about Phillips: “Yes, we think he will be able on Thursday. We have four more days yet, so we have time to verify and analyse the situation.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, against Swansea, Phillips took one shot which was not on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 74.4%, won three headers, took 65 touches, made three interceptions and two clearances, and put in five crosses.

The midfielder has scored two goals and provided two assists in 37 Championship matches for Leeds this season, according to WhoScored.

The result on Sunday afternoon means that the West Yorkshire outfit are at the top of the Championship table at the moment with 84 points from 43 matches, three points clear of second-placed west Bromwich Albion and six points ahead of third-placed Brentford.

It seems that it is only a matter of time before Leeds are back in the Premier League.
