While Celtic’s summer move for Moussa Dembele has paid immediate dividends, Rangers’ have been patiently waiting for Joe Dodoo to come good.
Like Dembele he was signed from an English club, reigning champions Leicester City, and had scored goals for the Foxes in the League Cup.
In terms of results in Scotland since, that’s where the comparisons end, with Dembele scoring for fun and Dodoo still looking for his first league goal.
Unlike Dembele, Dodoo is more of a winger than a striker, and featured out wide at the weekend when he came off the bench for Michael O’Halloran against Dundee.
Dodoo made a crucial impact in the fixture, delivering the cross for Harry Forrester to score Rangers’ winning goal.

It was Dodoo’s eighth league appearance of the season, but he is yet to start. The longest spell of time he has had on the pitch is 34 minutes, with 173 minutes in total to his name in league competition.
This was the first time Dodoo had made a telling contribution, and is surely deserving of more opportunities.
So far in his short career Dodoo has shown an eye for goal, and could be a difference maker Rangers need to spark their season.
While still a raw talent, the promising forward needs regular football if he is to kick on, and after showing promising signs at the weekend, there should be genuine hope that Dodoo can finally come good.
