Portsmouth defender Jack Whatmough was linked with Scottish Premiership giants Rangers and Celtic before signing a new deal at Fratton Park.

Celtic and Rangers were going head to head to hand Jack Whatmough his big break.
According to The Sun, the Old Firm duo were both circling around the highly-rated Portsmouth defender and were hoping to sign him on a free when his contract expired at the end of the season.
It would have been understandable if the prospect of playing Champions League football with Celtic, or honing his trade under Steven Gerrard in front of a raucous Ibrox crowd, tempted Whatmough to consider life north of the border.
Instead, however, the 22-year-old committed his future to Pompey by signing a new two-and-a-half year deal in January, as reported by the BBC. But after spurning interest from Celtic and Rangers, Whatmough’s season could have a nightmare conclusion.
He will miss the weekend’s enticing Checkatrade Trophy final between Portsmouth and Sunderland in front of a sell-out Wembley crowd thanks to a cruelly-timed injury blow.

And, to make matters worse, Kenny Jackett’s side have slipped from the top of the League One table and out of the automatic promotion positions altogether on the back of a dreadful run of form during the turn of the year.
Pompey have won four of their last five league games but they might have left it too late for a resurgence. With five games left, they are four points behind second placed Barnsley while Luton are running away with the title.
With all things considered, did Whatmough really make the right call?
