Liverpool fans clearly do not think much of Alberto Moreno, with many stating they would rather see Mark Wright at left-back.
England XI’s Mark Wright celebrates scoring their first goal
In the name of charity, England beat the Rest of the World 3-2 in the annual Soccer Aid event at Old Trafford.
The game saw ‘celebrities’ mix with retired footballers, and in the case of two-goal Jermain Defoe, players still able to contribute at the professional level.
The highlight of the match was reality TV star Mark Wright scoring a peach of a free-kick, which opened the scoring and stunned onlookers.
Wright was playing at left-back for England, and his performance had watching Liverpool supporters crowing they would rather see him playing for the club than Alberto Moreno.
The takeaway from this is not that Liverpool fans would really see Mark Wright lining up at Anfield, but that they think so little of Alberto Moreno.
Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno in action with Sevilla’s Mariano
Moreno’s terrible performance in the Europa League Final was seen as a large contributing factor in Sevilla winning 3-1 and leaving the Reds defeated, and it was by far from being an outlier.
The Spaniard has been inconsistent ever since signing for Liverpool, and supporters are pinning their hopes on him being replaced this summer.
It won’t be with Mark Wright, but it’s evident that Moreno has set the bar low for Liverpool fans to be happy with the standard of player required as an improvement based on his recent performances.
