Brentford’s Sergi Canos could have moved to Leeds United rather than Norwich City – if they had stumped up the asking price.

Until very recently, Sergi Canos had done very little to make Leeds United regret not paying the £2.5 million Norwich City had demanded for his services in January.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Garry Monk’s side had been priced out of a deal but, on the back of the Spaniard’s rampant performance at Griffin Park, his asking price suddenly looks like a bargain.
Canos tore Leeds apart in a sublime first-half performance, inspiring a 2-0 Brentford victory and inflicting a second defeat on three days on their Yorkshire guests. Launching six attempts on goal, only Rob Green’s fingertips prevented the former Liverpool youngster from capping one of the most impressive individual performances of the season with a deserved goal.
However, while Canos buzzed and sparkled at the heart of Brentford’s midfield, his compatriot Pablo Hernandez continued to sleepwalk through the remaining fixtures of the season.

The playmaker, relied upon so heavily by Leeds and perhaps the only player in Monk’s squad capable of carving apart an opposition backline, was quiet once again. As such, the Championship’s top scorer, Chris Wood, was starved of service up top and unable to exert any influence on proceedings.
Leeds’ failure to adequately reinforce a rather slim squad in January appears to be their undoing as the momentum slips away with just four games to go. They have now failed to score a goal in 180 minutes of Championship football.
Meanwhile, Canos, who had scored three times in two games prior to Tuesday’s effervescent display, appears to be coming into his own in the final weeks of the season. If only Monk could call upon him right about now.
