If Wolverhampton Wanderers really want to bring Alex Pritchard to Molineux, now could be their best chance yet.
According to the Sun (6 December, page 59), Wolves have been tracking the dynamic midfielder for six years now and were still keen to sign him in a deal that was expected to cost £15 million.
And the door looks wide open now.
Pritchard’s current side, Huddersfield Town, bowed out of the Premier League with a whimper last weekend, becoming only the second team in the history of the top flight to be relegated before the clocks go back.
The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster is likely to be one of the players who will be given the chance to stay in the Premier League on the back of some impressive performances, particularly under David Wagner.
Huddersfield may be forced to accept around £15 million now as they prepare for life back in the Championship. And that is merely small change these days to Wolves’ billionaire owners.
Whether Pritchard is simply effective enough in the final third to play for a Wolves side sitting seventh in the Premier League is another matter entirely.
