Sheffield United are hoping to sell Callum Robinson to West Bromwich Albion for £8 million this summer, according to The Sun (21 June, page 59).
The Baggies have already secured the permanent signing of one of their star performers.
Matheus Pereira triggered a clause in his contract during Saturday’s goalless draw with Birmingham City, meaning arguably the most technically gifted footballer in the Championship will be joining West Brom on a permanent basis for a bargain £9 million.
And with Sheffield United demanding a similar fee for a Republic of Ireland international, West Brom could be about to snap up another talented forward on the cheap.
Robinson still has much to prove, however, even if the former Aston Villa youngster has been a revelation since moving to the Hawthorns on loan in January.
The speedy forward had already established himself as a Championship star during his time at Preston North End.
Whether he can make the step up to Premier League level, with West Brom potentially just a few games from promotion, remains to be seen.
Robinson didn’t exactly set the world alight at Sheffield United after all. During the first half of the season, he scored just once in nine top-flight starts for Chris Wilder’s Blades and quickly tumbled down the pecking order.
So while a permanent move for Pereira felt like a no-brainer, Robinson’s future might require some thinking at West Brom.
