Leeds United defender skirted around his first team absence.
Pontus Jansson of Leeds United
Leeds United talisman Pontus Jansson was a surprise omission from the starting line-up for the Whites’ big game against Brighton at the weekend.
The reason for his absence remains unclear with head coach Garry Monk giving few clues away.
Leeds had struggled without Jansson previously but managed to see out an impressive 2-0 win over their promotion rivals.
More than 24 hours after the win, Jansson put a message out on Twitter, before he heads off on international duty with Sweden.
Jansson’s replacement Liam Cooper stepped up and played well alongside Kyle Bartley, and Leeds moved closer to securing a play-off spot.
The win kept Leeds in fourth place but they closed the gap on second placed Brighton to nine points. An automatic play-off spot is still a big ask, but it is not impossible.
