Newcastle United were said to be considering Leeds outcast Charlie Taylor earlier this season.

Charlie Taylor will never be seen in a Leeds United shirt again after his refusal to play for the club last Sunday against Wigan.
The left-back’s contract is set to expire and he is keen to clinch a move to the Premier League, with The Telegraph reporting West Brom lead the chase.
A team who may also be able to now win the race for Taylor are newly promoted Newcastle United.
The Chronicle reported earlier this season that Newcastle have scouted the left-back, and he impressed in the clash between the two teams at Elland Road.
| Team | Passing Accuracy | Won Tackles per game | Interceptions per game | Blocks per game | Effective Clearances per game | Key Passes per game | Crossing Accuracy | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Charlie Taylor | Leeds | 77% | 1.21 | 1.24 | 0.17 | 2.48 | 0.66 | 20% | 29 |
| Paul Dummett | Newcastle | 74% | 1.07 | 1.09 | 0.29 | 3.96 | 0.71 | 31% | 45 |
Taylor was less durable than Newcastle left-back Paul Dummett this past campaign, playing 16 fewer games due to injury.
The Newcastle defender has a better crossing accuracy but Taylor was more productive in terms of tackles won per game and interceptions.

Taylor is out of contract at the end of June although his next club will have to pay Leeds a fee via a tribunal as he has come through their academy.
Despite this the 23-year-old is a potential bargain and if West Brom hesitate, Newcastle should double down on the position and make a move to bring him in to compete with Dummett upon their Premier League return.
