The Glasgow Rangers centre-back is impressing at both ends of the field.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers vies with Jack Aitchison of Celtic during The Scottish FA Youth Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park on April 26, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Goal-scoring centre-backs are worth their weight in gold and Rangers may have found one at the very start of his career in Ross McCrorie.

It is one thing stealing a few goals from set-pieces and quite another impressing at both ends of the pitch, and in the 19-year-old Rangers have a player who could become one of their all-time greats with time and patience.

Prior to his Ibrox exit, Pedro Caixinha gave McCrorie a chance to impress and he seized it with both hands, to such an extent that he now looks set to keep the likes of Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves out of the Gers’ starting XI for some time to come.

Centre-back is arguably the hardest position for a youngster to break through, with only the most talented and composed able to make their mark before they have even reached their 20th birthday.

McCrorie is certainly in that bracket and his goal to set Rangers on their way to a 3-0 victory over Partick Thistle on Saturday proved he is more than just a handy stopper.

Two goals and two assists during a brief loan spell at Ayr United gave a tantalising glimpse of his talent further forward and do not be surprised if he gets plenty of goals for Rangers in the years ahead.
