Reported Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton target Axel Disasi is free to leave Reims this summer, the Ligue 1 club’s president Jean-Pierre Cailot has told But Football Club.
With countless clubs on both sides of the Channel expressing their interest in a 6ft 3ins giant of a centre-back, lord knows which of the chasing pack is at the front of the queue right now.
But you would imagine that Wolves are setting the pace.
After all, L’Equipe claimed recently that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who have their sights set on improving an already impressive backline, have offered £13.5 million to bring Disasi to Molineux.
There is no shortage of competition for the Frenchman’s signature, however, with The Mail reporting in June that Southampton, Arsenal and Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur side had also thrown their metaphorical hats into the proverbial ring.
“He has a release certificate,” Caillot says, admitting that he will not stop in Disasi’s way.
“His profile interests a lot of clubs. Today, three clubs are quite advanced (in talks). I do not know if it will be one of these three that he will choose. But it’s likely to move fast.”
Given that Wolves appear to have made an official bid for Disasi’s services, we can only assume that they are one of this mysterious trio of clubs who have entered ‘advanced’ talks for one of Ligue 1’s hottest talents.
Disasi could even replace another towering Frenchman at Molineux.
After all, Willy Boly is yet to sign a contract extension with his current deal set to expire in 2021.
