Andrea Belotti appears to have ruled out an imminent move to Tottenham Hotspur, telling Toro.It how excited he is about a new era at Torino under the newly-hired head coach Marco Giampaolo.
With just two weeks remaining in the transfer window, and Spurs seemingly no closer to signing a new number nine to ease the burden on Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son’s four-goal haul away at Southampton perhaps came at the perfect time.
Jose Mourinho might not see the South Korean as a ‘number nine’.
But, after Son put the Saints to the sword with four clinically taken finishes on the South Coast, the Portuguese might have no choice but to change his mind.
Especially as Tottenham’s chances of signing a proven centre-forward between now and October 5 look slim, with a bid for Danny Ings failing, Bas Dost electing to stay at Frankfurt and Alexander Sorloth heading to RB Leipzig.
There is one more name in the frame, however. Di Marzio claimed last week that Spurs were interested in signing Italy international Belotti on loan with a £43 million option-to-buy clause.
But, with the European Championships just months away and Torino embarking on an ambitious new era, the club captain doesn’t sound like a man preparing for the exit.
“Giampaolo? A new manager who has a different idea of the game than we had in the past,” Belotti says of an attack-minded tactician who’s appointment should boost his chances of a 20-goal season.

“I have seen clear improvements during training and therefore I am very confident. My goals can help Torino to aim for high peaks.”
Belotti, who has scored 92 goals for the Serie A outfit, has also set his sights on reaching the record of 107 set by Torino legend Guglielmo Gabetto.
“It would be an honor to reach a myth in the history of Grande Torino (Gabetto). I will do everything possible.”
Torino president Urbano Cairo made his stance clear in August, telling La Stampa that Belotti’s future was ‘not up for discussion’.
Fortunately, Tottenham have one of the most ruthless finishers in European football in Son – even if Mourinho believes the winger remain a winger.
