West Bromwich Albion are reportedly set to be disappointed in their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.
ESPN reports that Carrick – who is also being pursued by Leicester and Aston Villa – plans to stay at Old Trafford, seemingly leaving the Baggies disappointed.
So perhaps Tony Pulis should look elsewhere in the Premier League if he is determined to bolster his midfield options in January, especially if one of their rivals are about to lose their manager.
Jack Cork has been excellent for Burnley this season, and was arguably the best player on the pitch during the Clarets’ narrow win over Newcastle United on Monday night, so perhaps he is a player worth keeping an eye on.

With Burnley boss Sean Dyche set to attract an approach from Everton, according to Sky Sports, his future may perhaps have an interesting impact on a number of players at Turf Moor.
Dyche has been fantastic for the Clarets, and losing him to the Toffees – if he did end up leaving for Goodison Park – would surely leave a number of players considering their futures, especially if they were offered the chance to move away.
Cork may not be keen to leave at all, but if Pulis is determined to add to his options in the middle of the park, he is certainly a player that the Baggies should be looking at in the coming months, as he could be an excellent addition to the squad.
West Brom’s midfield has not quite clicked recently – despite the obvious quality amongst the likes of Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore and Grzegorz Krychowiak – so targeting trying to add Cork to the ranks may not be a bad idea after the setback of seemingly missing out on Carrick.
