According to a report from the Sun, Victor Wanyama is one of four Tottenham players who Mauricio Pochettino is keen to sell in January, but allowing the Kenyan to leave north London could turn out to be a huge error of judgement.

The 27-year-old joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £11 million, and he has since gone on to chalk up 76 appearances in all competitions.

Whilst Wanyama has suffered his fair share of injuries during his time with Tottenham, he still remains a vital part of the way in which Pochettino wants his team to play.

The former Celtic star’s physicality and aggression in the middle of the park is something that Spurs will desperately miss, especially if they lose Mousa Dembele as well in January.

Wanyama’s contribution to his team often flies under the radar. His game revolves around doing the unfashionable things very well, and there is a really strong case to be made that Tottenham would miss his physical presence in the middle of the park.

The Kenya international is still in the prime years of his career, and undoubtedly has plenty left to offer Spurs.

With that in mind, it might just be wise for Pochettino to keep hold of the midfielder in January.
