Jhon Cordoba has responded to speculation around his future after the Wolverhampton Wanderers target turned down a new contract at Cologne, while speaking to Antena2.

Nuno Espirito Santo made his opinions as clear as day after Wolves’ Europa League adventure came to an end against Sevilla on Tuesday night.

After over a year of relentless action, and 59 matches across all competitions, Nuno is demanding additions to one of the smallest squads in English football (Sky).

Cover for Raul Jimenez, Wolves’ talismanic top scorer, is a must.

The Mexico international made a staggering 55 appearances in 2019/20 alone and, given that he is hardly a spring chicken at the age of 29, even one of the most consistent strikers in Europe would benefit from a rest now and again.

And that is where Cordoba comes in.

Express reported recently that Wolves are eyeing up an £18 million bid for a powerhouse Colombian who found the net 14 times in 31 Bundesliga games last season.

According to director Horst Heldt, Cordoba has so far rejected the chance to extend his contract beyond 2021, deeming Cologne’s initial offer to be ‘unnacceptable’.

“I have one more year of contract, I am still here and I am calm,” the well-travelled striker says after the best season of his career.

“We will see what happens. They have treated me very well, I am very grateful and everyone has done their part. I leave everything external to my representative and the sporting director here, they are the ones who have to agree (on an extension).”

Considering that he never scored more than five goals in a league season until joining Cologne two years ago, it is fair to say Cordoba is at the peak of his powers right now.

What better time, then, for the South American to try his hand at Premier League football? Modelling himself on Didier Drogba, he certainly has the attributes to thrive at Molineux.
