Ryan Nolan could be set to sign for Swiss second tier strugglers FC Chiasso just one year after rejecting a move to Leeds United, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

While Jadon Sancho has been pulling up trees and scoring goals for fun since packing his bags and heading off across the continent, it’s fair to say a young Irishman has not enjoyed quite the same level of success at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Munster-born Nolan put pen to paper with none other than Inter Milan five years ago.

But while there is no shame whatsoever in failing to make the grade at San Siro (even the great Diego Godin has struggled at the Nerazzuri), the 21-year-old must now be wondering whether he made the right call rejecting the a return to island life last summer.

Inter News claimed that Leeds offered Nolan a three-year contract at Elland Road.

But, with the Whites planning to loan him out to Kilmarnock for the season, the former Ireland U18 star felt that his development would be better served staying in Italy instead (Pundit Arena).

Now, after just 12 months and ten appearances for Serie C outfit Arezzo, Nolan looks set to continue his career on the other side of the Alps.

TMW reports that he is set to join Chiasso on a contract until 2022.

So, while Leeds are on the verge of promotion back to the Promised Land, bottom-of-the-table Chiasso will be playing third tier football next season unless they can pull off a great escape of Houdini-esque proportions.

With six games remaining, they are bottom of the Swiss Challenge League and 12 points from safety.
