After the high of beating Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday (November 1), Tottenham Hotspur return to domestic action when they host Crystal Palace this weekend.

Spurs suffered defeat last time out in the Premier League when they lost 1-0 at Manchester United, but produced the perfect response four days later when they outclassed Madrid at Wembley Stadium.

In theory they should be going into this clash with bottom-placed Palace buoyed with confidence and while that is quite possibly true, there are several reasons why the South Londoners could spring a surprise.

Firstly, at the back Tottenham are without two of their key players in Toby Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris with hamstring and thigh injuries respectively suffered against Los Blancos, as reported by the Guardian.

This is a huge blow and while they have a capable deputy in goal in Michel Vorm and Eric Dier could easily slot into the back three, the in-form Wilfried Zaha will sense an opportunity – another reason for the Eagles to be positive.

Zaha has been superb since his return from injury, scoring the winner in the side’s one and only league victory this season against Chelsea and also a 97th-minute equaliser against West Ham United last time out.

Finally, that triumph against Zinedine Zidane’s men is sure to have drained the North Londoners and even with four days in between games this could actually be the best time for Roy Hodgson to take on Mauricio Pochettino.
