Leeds United can’t afford to upset Marcelo Bielsa.

On Tuesday, Leeds United exercised their option to keep Marcelo Bielsa in West Yorkshire for another year.

It’s a huge step in the right direction for the Whites after worrying reports that he could be snatched away from Leeds.

Bielsa, if rumours are believed, was in-demand figure, one who was linked with the Roma job in recent weeks [Di Marzio].

It seems likely that owner Andrea Radrizzani will have had to make the Argentine certain promises in order to keep him at Elland Road, commitments perhaps related to either keeping big players or buying them.

And it’s absolutely vital that the Italian owner keeps his word because Bielsa has proven that he will walk away from clubs if the hierarchy reneges on promises.

After all, the 63-year-old is known as El Loco – the Crazy One – and for good reason. In 2015, he suddenly resigned as Marseille coach during a post-match press conference after losing to Caen on the opening day of the season.

According to ESPN, the Ligue 1 side ‘tried to change some details in the contract he had agreed with them’, resulting in the shock departure. The report added: “He [Bielsa] could not accept it. His trust towards his bosses had been broken. So he left.”

The above clearly depicts Bielsa as a man of principle and honour, and if Radrizzani goes back on guarantees that he made to the South American then he may remind us why he is known as El Loco.
