PSG are the latest European club to show interest in Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi so should Manchester United at least take a closer look?

This may not be a link that immediately springs to mind, but should Manchester United genuinely be taking a closer look at Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi?

Two seasons in England that have involved relegation and then 12 months in the Championship is hardly the usual background for a Red Devils signing, but interest from around Europe suggests that they should at least consider Amavi.

French publication, L’Equipe, have claimed that Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old as they look to replace veteran Brazilian Maxwell.

This comes on the back of reports from Marca in Spain that Sevilla offered £5.3m to bring Amavi to La Liga, but Villa rejected it as they want closer to the £9m they paid Nice for the full-back in 2015.

Not only are PSG and Sevilla leading lights domestically in their own respective leagues, but they also have a great recent pedigree in European football and as United prepare to return to the Champions League, perhaps they should not be too quick to dismiss options from the English second tier.

Having consistently criticised Luke Shaw during his first year at Old Trafford, manager Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for a new left-back this summer – according to the Express – and with no concrete deals on the immediate horizon for the club, maybe Amavi could be the shrewd signing that few saw coming.
