The former Swansea manager has resigned from his Leeds United post. Could Middlesbrough now go all out to bring him in?

Much to the shock of Leeds United supporters, popular manager Garry Monk has resigned. The former Swansea City man, who joined Leeds in the summer, almost led the Whites to the play-offs this season, and was largely expected to lead them into the next campaign.
Who Leeds will bring in to replace Monk is still unclear. However, where the manager might end up could be a little more predictable. After speculation linking them to the Leeds United manager a few days ago by The Sun, Middlesbrough could be expected to try and snap up Garry Monk for their vacant managerial post.

After promotion to the Premier League, Middlesbrough fans were disappointed at the performances displayed under long-serving manager, Aitor Karanka. The Spaniard was notoriously inflexible when it came to his tactics, and Middlesbrough’s defensive football had them struggling from the get go.
Not a man to sack managers frivolously. Chairman Steve Gibson took the tough decision to axe Karanka in March, and the club have been without a manager since. With Monk reportedly already on the Boro shortlist, Steve Gibson could well go all out now to bring the popular Leeds manager to the Riverside.

But Gibson could face a lot of competition for Monk’s services. With fellow relegated sides Sunderland and Hull City also looking for new managers, along with several Premier League sides such as Watford and Crystal Palace, the Boro Chairman will need to act fast, should he hope to secure the services of Monk.
However, with an excellent playing squad and plenty of funds to shape the side how he wants to, Middlesbrough could well be just the kind of project Garry Monk would be interested in… much to the annoyance of the frustrated Leeds United fans.
