Crystal Palace have been beaten to the signing of Oliver Burke from RB Leipzig by West Bromwich Albion, whom the Guardian reported have completed a £15m deal for the winger.

Palace manager Frank de Boer admitted that the South London club were interested in signing the Scotland international, with the Croydon Advertiser claiming the appointment of Dougie Freedman as sporting director – who was Burke’s boss at Nottingham Forest – would help push the deal over the line.

Yet the Baggies have won the race to sign the 20-year-old and that has left De Boer needing to look elsewhere for support out wide, which has been prioritised following a knee injury to Wilfried Zaha.

However, there could be an alternative for the Eagles waiting in the Championship, with Wahbi Khazri revealing he wants to leave Sunderland and would prefer to move to the English top flight.

“In my head, I want to leave. I am open to listening to offers and projects and above all I am looking for a project that allows me to kick-start and enjoy life on the pitch,” Khazri was quoted by the Chronicle.

“My priority is to stay in the Premier League. When you have tasted the Premier League, you don’t want to leave it. I am open to all leagues and clubs.”

Khazri has played one season in the division before after he completed a £9m switch to the Stadium of Light in 2016 (Guardian), although it was not a happy experience as the Black Cats suffered relegation.

However, De Boer could perhaps take a punt on the 26-year-old and give him a second chance in the top tier of English football as time runs out in the transfer window for the Dutchman to secure a signing out wide.
